Tradicionalno prije dodjele najprestižnije filmske nagrade Oscar dodijeljene su one za najgora filmska ostvarenja, popularne Zlatne maline.
Najgorim filmom je proglašen lažni dokumentarni film Hillaryna Amerika (Hillary’s America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party) koji ima samo 4% na portalu Rotten Tomatoes. Uz najgori film, osvojio je Zlatne maline za najgoreg glumca (Dinesh D'Souza), glumicu i redatelja (Dinesh D'Souza i Bruce Schooley).
Četiri nagrade je osvojio i DC-jev film Batman protiv Supermana i to za najgoreg sporednog glumca (Jesse Eisenberg), najgori scenarij, najgoru kombinaciju (Ben Affleck i Henry Cavill) i najgori prequel, remake, rip-off ili nastavak.
Jedina kategorija u kojoj jedan od ova dva filma nisu nagrađeni jest najgora sporedna glumica. Ta Zlatna malina je pripala Kristen Wiig za Zoolander 2, komediju koja je imala najviše nominacija (njih devet), ali je na kraju ponijela titulu najgore u samo jednoj.
